About Us

In 2006, a group of Terrebonne Parish residents and business owners created the Morganza Action
Coalition (MAC)
to promote federal authorization and funding of the Morganza-to-the-Gulf Hurricane
Protection System in southeast Louisiana.  These concerned individuals recognized the importance of the
90-mile lock, levee and floodgate system to the continued survivability, economic viability and growth of
Terrebonne and Lafourche Parishes, and to our ability to fuel and feed this entire nation.

Today, MAC continues to be a unified, grassroots voice advocating for federal, state and local support to fully
construct the Morganza project to a level that will protect our vital region for decades to come. This is our one and only focus.

We work closely with the Terrebonne Levee and Conservation District (TLCD), North Lafourche Levee District (NLLD) and South Lafourche Levee District (SLLD)  to advocate for the comprehensive hurricane protection that Morganza will provide and to clear hurdles delaying federal support.

In 2012, MAC worked with our federal delegation to secure the funds to complete a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers report necessary for
Morganza's federal authorization, and in 2013, we will be working diligently for authorization in the WRDA Bill.   In addition, MAC has
been an outspoken opponent to the current federal wetlands mitigation policy and a strong advocate for a policy more suitable to Louisiana’s degrading coastal wetlands environment.

Locally, the TLCD pushes forward with the construction of the first lift of the Morganza to the Gulf levee system and
floodgates, utilizing soley state funds and local sales tax collections.  MAC supports this ongoing effort  as we continue to work aggressively to achieve the federal assistance needed to complete the entire Morganza-to-the-Gulf System to its fully authorized level.
This is the effective hurricane protection system that Americans living and working in Terrebonne
and Lafourche Parishes need and deserve.

As a 501(c)4 organization, MAC relies on financial contributions from local businesses and individuals to
support these lobbying efforts in Washington, D.C. and in Baton Rouge, as well as to fund outreach and
communication activities to gain public support for the Morganza project. Contribute to MAC
