Bubba Dove HNC Flood Control Structure Launched in Amelia

Terrebonne Levee & Conservation District

August 15, 2012

On August 14,  the “Bubba Dove HNC Flood Control Structure” was launched from Bollinger’s Shipyard in Amelia, LA.  This $10 Million barge structure is 273’ long, 42’ high, and 60’ wide and will hold 2 million gallons of water when sunk.  It is scheduled to make its 8 hour trip to its final destination on November 12, where it will take 6-10 days to be installed on the $40 Million receiving structure and floodwalls.  Once final installation is complete, the citizens of Terrebonne Parish will be protected from storm surge from a bottom sill elevation of -24’ to an elevation of +18’ in the HNC.  This is a monumental event for the citizens of Terrebonne Parish, and a proud moment for the Terrebonne Levee & Conservation District.
